Counts only, no score. The notes are our rules of thumb from this guide, not hard limits.
How to use it
- Paste your email; start with a "Subject:" line to check the subject too.
- Read the counts and the notes.
- Edit until each note is something you meant.
What it counts
Words, sentences, questions (your asks), links, "I/we" against "you/your", and merge tags. It shows counts, not a score, because the right length depends on the email.
Our rule of thumb
Most cold emails we'd send are 50 to 125 words in the body: short enough to read on a phone. Pitches with a quote or samples can run longer.
Questions people ask
How long should a cold email be?
Long enough to give one reason and one ask, short enough to read on a phone. For most cold emails that's about 50 to 125 words.
Is my email sent anywhere?
No. The checker runs in your browser and nothing leaves your device.
Why count questions?
Each question is something to answer. One clear ask is easier to reply to than three.
