Unsubscribe links in campaigns
What the unsubscribe link adds to your campaign emails, what recipients see when they click it, and where unsubscribed people end up.
Every campaign can add a short unsubscribe line under your signature. It’s on by default. People who use it go on your do-not-contact list, so no campaign emails them again.
- They click the linkAt the bottom of your campaign email.
- A page asks to confirmSo link scanners can't unsubscribe anyone.
- They click UnsubscribeOr use Gmail's or Outlook's own button.
- Do-not-contactNo campaign emails them again.
Turn it on or off
Step 1: Find the setting
Open the campaign editor: New campaign, or Edit on an existing campaign. In the Emails section, below the last follow-up, find Add an unsubscribe link.
Step 2: Leave it ticked
When it is ticked, each campaign email ends with:
If you’d rather not hear from me again, unsubscribe here.
Mailpitcher also adds the one-click unsubscribe headers that Gmail and Outlook look for. They show their own Unsubscribe button next to your name, which works the same way.
- 11: Add an unsubscribe link
- 22: The line recipients see
Laws such as CAN-SPAM (US) and CASL (Canada) require a way to opt out of commercial email. Keeping the link on also stops annoyed people from marking you as spam, which hurts your mailbox more.
What recipients see
Step 3: They click the link
A short page opens: Unsubscribe?, with your name and their address, and an Unsubscribe button. Just opening the page changes nothing. This stops email security scanners, which open every link, from unsubscribing people by accident.
Step 4: They confirm
After they click Unsubscribe, the page says You’re unsubscribed. The page also says Mailpitcher doesn’t add them to any list of its own.
Where they end up
Step 5: Check your do-not-contact list
Open Campaigns, then Do-not-contact. Unsubscribed people show with the reason Unsubscribed. They are skipped in every campaign from then on.
If someone unsubscribed by mistake and asks to hear from you again, click Remove next to their address.
Good to know
- The link only appears in campaign emails, not in emails you write yourself. Asked by email to stop? Add the address to Do-not-contact by hand.
- In the editor’s Preview, the line is shown under each email so you see exactly what goes out. The link works only in the real email.
