Review and send first emails one by one
Check each person's first email exactly as it will go out, edit it for them if you like, and send it yourself. Their follow-ups then go automatically.
Review & send goes through a campaign’s first emails one person at a time. You see each email exactly as it will arrive: who it’s from, who it’s to, the subject (with their subject variant, if you’re testing subjects), the message with merge tags filled in, your signature and the unsubscribe line. You send each one yourself. That person’s follow-ups then go out on their own, from the same mailbox, in the same thread, and stop if they reply.
Use it for your most important prospects, or when you’d like to read every pitch before it goes.
Before you start
- A paid plan, two-step sign-in, and a campaign with its emails written and at least one mailbox.
- The people you want to email on the campaign. Adding people never emails them.
Open Review & send
Step 1: Start from a campaign or from a project
- From a campaign: open it and click Review & send. The number on the button is how many people are still waiting for their first email. On the Recipients tab you can tick some people first and click Review & send for just them.
- From a project: in the Table view, tick prospects, click Add to sequence, then Review and send now…. Pick the campaign. They’re added to it first (anyone on your do-not-contact list is left out), then Review & send opens with just them.
- From a prospect: open a prospect on the project’s board or table. Under Sequences, a campaign with manual send shows Review & send for that one person while their first email is waiting.
Step 2: Check who it’s from
From starts at the campaign’s first mailbox, and shows how many emails each mailbox has sent today against its daily cap. Pick another mailbox from the campaign if you like. Mailpitcher never switches mailboxes for you here, and the follow-ups go from the mailbox you picked.
Step 3: Read the email
The email shows as the person will see it. If you’re testing subject lines, a letter next to the subject shows which variant they get.
Step 4: Send, skip, or edit this one
- Send (or ⌘ Enter, Ctrl + Enter on Windows) sends it now and moves to the next person.
- Skip (S) leaves them for now. Nothing is sent.
- Edit this one (E) changes the subject and message for just this person. Click Done editing, then Send. Your signature and the unsubscribe line are still added.
- Previous and Next (K and J, or the arrow keys) move through the list.
The counter at the top shows where you are, for example “12 of 40 · 9 sent · 3 skipped”. Esc closes the window.
Manual send: first emails by hand, follow-ups automatic
In the campaign editor, under Schedule, How first emails go out has two choices:
- Automatically, inside the sending window: the usual campaign.
- By hand: first emails go out only when you send them from Review & send. The campaign shows Manual send at the top. Follow-ups stay automatic.
With manual send, Save & start becomes Save & review, and sending the first email starts the campaign so its follow-ups can go. When you choose Review and send now… from a project, you can switch the campaign to manual send in the same step.
Good to know
- Daily caps still apply. If a mailbox has sent its daily cap, Review & send says so and offers Schedule for the next sending day, from that mailbox. Or pick another mailbox.
- People on your do-not-contact list, or marked as dead in a project, can’t be sent to. People who already got the first email are marked as emailed.
- If the campaign is paused, a first email you send here still goes now. Its follow-ups wait until you resume the campaign.
- An email you edited for one person counts under Edited by hand in the subject results, not under a variant.
- Mailpitcher doesn’t track opens or clicks. Results are replies and bounces.
